Melbourne Trip Pt 4

Thursday, October 21, 2010 6 comments

Suddenly I have the urge to update this blog.

So, I shall continue with the travelogue.

Day 3(Thursday)
My dad arrived exactly around 830am at the hotel. So let him relax tad bit and had breakfast and we straight away hop on the tram to our designated POI for the day, Queen Victoria Market. Lil bit of the market from its website..

Queen Victoria Market is Victoria's premier open-air market. It's a thriving and vital place pulsating with life. The friendly competition between stallholders, and their concern for customers, is what gives the Market its Old World charm and the addictive power to draw millions of visitors each year.
The vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere of this historic site has endeared the Market to Melburnians for 130 years. The Market is probably best known for its huge variety of fresh produce. Almost 50% of the Market area is dedicated to the sale of fresh produce, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, chicken, seafood and delicatessen products.
The Market is divided into a number of Market Precincts; the Deli Hall, Elizabeth Street Shops, F shed laneway, Vic Market Place Food Court, Fruit and Vegetables, The Meat Hall, Organics, General Merchandise, Victoria Street Shops and the Wine Market.
Trading hours:-
Tuesdays, 6am to 2pm

Thursdays, 6am to 2pm
Fridays, 6am to 5pm (General Merchandise to 4pm)
Saturdays, 6am to 3pm
Sundays, 9am to 4pm

So basically we aim to get souvenirs, some veggies to cook, fruits and just explore along this meaningful stuffs here. Tell u dok dalam pasar pun almost 5 hours. Gilos. From 9+ till its closing. Souvenir like fridge magnet and etc is dirt cheap here. Those koala bears and stuffs , tshirt all dirt cheap here compared to the usual souvenir house in town. And i notice lot's of the trinket like Ugg boots, belly dancers costume, pyjamas from Bangkok also made available here.
So, after we shopped for souvenirs, we get our veggies stock. I bought a very big russet potatoes for 5 pcs and some  onions for only AUD 1. Pisang montel yg mahal kat KL tuh 5 biji only AUD0.60. Isshhhh jakun kejap. And those stuffs are just so fresh and rambang mata like the whole carrefour for only ur veggies and fruits. Mahu tak pening melilau tgk those cheap fresh food stuffs.

Then we had lunch at the food court. Ada one halal beriani shop here but feeling omputih sikit makan fish n chips lor. The kids had so much fun eating and running around giving us some chance to relax kejap. Then off we walked back to the tram station but we decided to just walked all the way back to our hotel. As usual, singgah Coles, masuk JB Hi fi but the stress part Ipad and IP4 out of stock. Bengang bengang. Then sempat lagi pi pusing2 Federation Square. I love this area. Byk busking performance and etc. and it is just so lively.

Reached hotel dah nak malam kot. Prepare dinner with all those wonderful veggies and later we went out for some teh tarik and Roti canai at Mamak and another trip to David Jones for the closing of the night.
DAY 4
Mission on day 4. Harbour Town. This is an outlet shopping area which carry mostly Australian Brand. Tapi adalah some yang rings a bell to my ears. Those like Pumpkin Patch, Cotton On, and ada byk jugak International Outlets macam Royal Doulton, Okaidi, Laura Ashley and many more. The best part abt melbourne HT is, the free city cirle tram stop betul2 depan HT nih. Amatlah convenient nak pegi 10000 kali pun takpe. :P

And tiba-tiba aja boleh ada satu mini animal farm tgh-tgh Harbour town since its actually school holiday in Oz during these time. Kira, both kids and mom get benefit from this HT visits.

Time to do some serious shopping this time.  And no need to explain further lah. Its shop shop shop shop untill suddenly Khazin decided to throw his first tantrum just because I refused to buy him a hat from Pumpkin Patch. Ishhh, geram betul. terbantut kejap aktiviti shopping but it was just in time for lunch.

Had lunch at CiliPadi, another Halal outlet here. One thing, Melbourne is just full of halal eating outlet. So mmg amat senang. You do not have to do some cooking pun but as in my case cooking can be fun too :P after all its not troublesome pun plus can save some $$$ to divert it to shopping :P. Well back to Harbour Town, after lunch continue hunting for clothes, shoes, home ware stuffs and lists are plenty my final check will be RD outlet. The sad thing, my dinner set is sold out so I got myself some loose plates, mugs and some bekas-bekas apa ntah but enuff said agak besar lubang di poket already. With gazillion stuffs, we still hop on the tram to go back as the tram was empty during that time there's space to arrange the stuffs, the kids and stroller. Stop by at Flinder St. another quick stop to get Khazin's milk. I just love making excuses to go to supermarket. :P it's fun to browse their aisle of food stuffs. Syiok ok. And manage to just stroll along few more Melbourne alleys for nothing. Tapi as i said its super fun to walk around sebab tak panas and not hujan pun. Perfect weather berjalan-jalan.

one of the alleys
lines of sandwich at one of the cafes...nmpk sedap aja...
breadtop yg ada mervelles cake tak beli pun tapi comel aja nmpk kek dia

Back at the hotel. Cook for dinner we just went out to Southbank area next to our hotel and enjoy the view for awhile and later settle back at the room for some Jackie Chan movie. It's going to be a long dat for us tomorrow.
Watch out.
Toodles.

Nota kaki:
Personally I may be getting myself one of these. The Co. is going to introduce a very competitive package for B users. The device is going at 50% off than what u see on the market but I love the kewlness of A..what lahhhh cant decide lagi...bengap betul..

Melbourne Trip Pt 3

Damn, i am just damn lazy to do any update. But for the benefit of most of my readers and for my keep sake, this travelogue will continue.

Day 2 (Wednesday)
Early brekkie with fried mee. Then, the plan was to explore the whole tram system. Once the boys are ready we straight away walk to Flinders St. This time we decided to cross the Princess bridge not the St. Kilda route. And straight away we hop on the city tram. Its a free tram system that hop on off at most of the strategic places of interest. The boys enjoyed the ride so much. Siap buat 2 rounds. We go on both ways. So we spotted where we wanna stop on first round and stop by at few locations on 2nd round. By the time we r done with the ride is almost noon. Had lunch at one of the Indonesian restaurant, Nelayan Seafood. Had their rice set with ice tea both ate a lot and that cause Bujin to fall asleep straight away. Then Khilfi and myself stroll along the city. We passed thru Collins St where all the upscale boutique LV, Hermes, Gucci and etc but no damage happened. I am a good girl. :P

We went to Target and Myers. Bought toys for the boys on 35% off. Sukalah mamat tuh. Then masuk Melbourne Central. Ada Halal Nandos kat sini yer puan-puan but we didnt eat pun still very much full of lunch stuffs. Tpt nih is a must go destination for all those those wanting to satisfy their shopping fix. It has over 300 stores ranging from lifestyle, clothes, cafes, restaurant & bars. All the chain stores are located here with the ground floor specialising in jeans and street wear. The big brands include CK Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger, General Pants Co (which sells Nudie Jeans), and G Star Raw will guarantee that you’ll find the right pair of jean and on top of the second level ada kedai-kedai lain spt. Portmans, Witchery, Cue, Ninewest while the top level is for more tailored chain stores such as Country Road, Satch, Saba, Arthur Galan, Caliber, Veronika Maine, De Cjuba, Alannah Hill. Some of the hidden alleyways also host International Street wear designer such as Diesel and Miss Sixty.

picture google

Adalah sedikit damage berlaku lil bit here and there and its almost 3 pm and i decided to hop on a cab and get to one of the halal butcher shop. The driver was a muslim turkish. Lucky us. He brought us to Footscray lil bit far away. I initially wanted to go to Sydney Road which was about 5 km away from CBD. Footscray is about 8km but its free tram zoine so its more straight forward. Thus, I buy in for its suggestion. He is generous enough to wait for us, even went down to the shop with us, carry our shopping bag and etc with no extra charges. Bought some chicken thigh, meat and wings. With so many stuffs with us, we just straight away asked him to send us back to the hotel. I spend the evening to clean up all the stuffs and wait for hubby to come back.

We anyway had dinner outside as I made plan to meet Sydney Diva, Rini and also Ms TopsyTurvyMum. I cant enclosed the pictures anyway to respect the privacy of MsTTM. hahahaha but the dinner was great except for Efi is menggeletis nak balik hotel nak main game. Tiba-tibalah kan. But overall it was great. A chance to rekindle old friendship and to meet new friends are always welcome. And the food, nasi kandar in melbourne. Can u beat that? hahahahahahah

Enroute back to the hotel we kind of torchure efi lil bit by strolling along the long way back. Saja je nak pusing2 city dan berangan2 with Jaz. :P tension mamat tuh. But it was great. Its cold but i love it. The view at yarra river was splendid. As  i said earlier I love this side of down under. :P

To be back with more later. ....

Melbourne Trip Pt 2

Now let us begin the travelogue. Mood nak menulis totally ke laut so terimalah seadanya. :P

Day 1(Tuesday)
Arrival on time despite a 45minutes flight delay from KL. Pecut ke apa abang pilot? anyway We reached there about 830am and straight away struggling to get ourselves out of the airport. It was a mess. The airport is under constructions the que is long at the immigration but somehow kuasa Tuhan it was super fast. But my first test was to pick up the luggage. It was massive chaos at the luggage claim and no trolleys in sight. I finally got my 2 big luggage, 1 stollers and 2 toddlers with no trolley. Ended up, I carried the stroller, 1 hand with luggage, 1 hand with khazin and efi had to drag another luggage and carry his rucksack. Giller nyer keje. Then we spotted one abandoned trolly, like God sent. And after that all runs smooth. We didnt declare anything as hubby already came 2 days earlier with all the foods. Let him do all the dirty work and I got thru customs at ease.

Once we are outside of the airport it was damn cold. 8 degree and raining some more. Hailed a cab and off to our hotel. It cost us close to AUD60 for that. (Mental note: if u start converting ur money when u travel, satu hapak benda pun x jadi). Reached hotel, enjoyed the comfort of it. Hubby stocked up bread and milk for us. And I whipped bread with nutella and get the boys to eat cereal too. Lps rehat kejap we refreshed and all, put on new clothes, jacket and socks now we are ready to hit the street bebeh.

Plan of the day to explore the city on foot. By 11 we are on our foot already.  I need to know where is the supermarket, important to stock up eggs, veggies and milk. I need to know the shops (hahahaha) and also eateries areas. This is Melbourne CBD Map.. And tell u it was fun fun fun to walk from one to another. The box from King St to Spring St. is where we cover to the top of La Trobe St and Flinders St. where we start off with.

Thus, Armed with the map and also some tips from few people we headed down to Federation Sq/Flinders St. Train station where the heart of Melbourne CDB, 200m from our hotels. It was cold, but i am liking it. As i mentioned earlier, Melbourne is super stylish, vibrant city with its shops, people, arts and modern and old architecture. I am loving every single bit of it. There's people everywhere A LOT but thank God Khazin is in tact on stroller and Efi will always hold on to me all the time.

We walked on every single street and allies. We spotted Coles express -open 24 hrs, Woolworth opens from 8-10pm daily, the famous branded street-Collins St, Myers David Jones and etc. Isshh, every single corner of Melb is shops. Everywhere is shops either selling food or stuffs. Giller and naik juling mata. U ended up not buying anything as its like everywhere sume rasa nak beli but u keep on saying it's ok I'll go and see the one up front ended up you will be on different street selling something else already. After we have walked for a good 2 hrs I guess, we cover up north east west and finally we are at chinatown area, its already close to the famous QV Central. There's an old town kopitiam mamak here. so teruslah cergas to enjoy our 1st lunch in melbourne. Had a scrumptious nasik ayam and mee goreng. No food picture, koser nak amik. While I was texting with a friend there teruslah lepas makan menjengah David Jones. And sempat I found this small home ware shops where my first shopping officiate inside here. :P

Then off we went to DJ and met Rini and Adam. Khazin buat his 1st business so melepak dlm parents room kejap, what a way of meeting up. kakakakakakak... off course byk lagi kes berjumpa slps itula kan. Then we parted way Khazin tido and both Khilfi and myself menjelajah the city again. I truly amazed with Khilfi's capabilities of walking. He didnt complained but need to bribe with ice cream once we reached the hotel. :P anyway the capabilities of him to stroll along the city was something amazing for a 6 yrs old since 11am. One thing about Melbourne CBD their alleys also very interesting. I found a city library, rows of eateries area, flower shop (love it) and more royal archade too. All by exploring those streets and alleys. After few alleys and shops we decided to just make our final call at Coles to get veggies, eggs and some titbits and we are off to cross the river back to our hotel area.

There's a small mall next to our hotel. We had our gelato inside and my boy loves it. Had one round of shop at Cotton on and we walk more to explore the Southbank area. We finally back at our hotel around 430pm and just resting till hubby come back from work around 5+. Once Khazin awake, we went next door get some buttered chicken and curry and just walk around lil bit. Back at our hotel, I cook some rice and fried veggies and had it with the chicken just now. That night we just call off to bed early. It has been a long day and both khilfi and myself just had like 2 hours sleep on the flight before. Overall, it was a great day and d boys are doing good even with hubby not around. And I am so happy.

More to come day 2 onwards. Toodles.

Melbourne Trip Pt 1

Friday, October 08, 2010 8 comments

I actually wants to blog about my sister's wedding first but I didn't get the photos to accompany the story so we will proceed with this trip first then. As i mentioned in my earlier post, the trip is tad bit impromptu. Booking was done at a very last minutes awaiting hubby to get his travel confirmation from his work. Its all depends on his schedule.

On this first installment, lemme go further lil bit on the general of the trip.

We flew via AirAsia this time. Not going to burn the $$$ as Jaz is going on separate way on the national carrier. But it cost us 1/3 only compared to MAS flight but u got to pay the drill lah kan. Honestly, I find its ok for adults on board but for kids maybe not that comfortable. Even we bought the HOT Seat seating for the xtra leg rooms and space for my kids to get themselves playing (if possible) on this 8 hours 10 mins journey. And to make it lil bit disappointing the e-player(in-flight entertainment) is not available during our journey back and flo. So agak tertekan anak bujang ku on the way back from melb to KL. Anyhow with the price that we pay i would rate the whole thing 7/10 which is OKlah.

We stayed in Quay West Suite, Southbank. It is a one-bedroom apartment with city view. It was very spacious and stylish. Love every single bit of it. It has living area and dining too. And off course it comes with complete kitchen facilities and all its utensil (the entry on the customer service explains it all). It has washing machine, dryer, dish washer, fridge, microwave and other things too. It has 2 tv's too so takde nak gaduh-gaduh rebut tv and also ada sofa bed at living area which suits to be my dad camp during his stay.

the big king sized bed

the kitchen were I cook morning and night..lunch mmg confirm makan luar..

dining area

living area

The hotel is only 200m from the city and situated on the other side of CBD. It's the river side and the view is just beautiful. Love it so much. The image below from the hotel website, the view from our room is as beautiful as this.

On weather side during our stay was tad bit cool. Melbourne can be funny in its weather. Ada hari its very bright and sunny but its 14degree. Beat that. And at night it can be as low as 6degree. Cuma on saturday and sunday weekend tuh it was abt 22-24 degree which is perfect. And that was a slight shower too on some days but that is not stopping me from moving to one place to another.

Since Jaz is working I was basically with the boys alone for the first 2 days (Tuesday-Wed). On Thursday my dad came and its easier for me to move around tad bit esp. when I'm boarding the tram as I need to fold the stroller and took care of both boys with no help before. The city circle tram is a free service which covers most of the highlights of Melbourne like Melbourne Aquarium, Parliament house, Collins St. (where all LV, Gucci, Prada, Chanel are located), Harbour Town, QV Centre, Melbourne Central (ada Nandos halal sini) yeay and Victoria Market. Just to name a few. It can be very crammed at certain hours but as you move along, people come and go it's actually ok to be on tram. It has a paid tram services too but we just stick to the free one as it covers our need already.

Abang kena marah sbb turun tram menggeletis...tp lepas tuh sanggup berdiri amik gambar. :P

Melbourne city generally is stylish city a mix of old, new modern and artsy. The shops is like in every corner at all single crook of it, trust me mmg penuh kedai bawak duit aja dlm karung...But it fulls of theater for many shows and art exhibition. Mmg cool.  Its easy to move around from one block to another and every single street has its highlights. It has 24 hours supermarket and the shops at least still open till 7pm. Compared to other state in Australia which normally closed at 5. And on Thursday most suburb enjoys the shop till 9-10pm and it applies to major dept. store in city too like Myer, Target, David Jones. And on Friday is late night shopping which most shops open till 9-10pm. Woolworth mmg confirm tutup at 10pm everyday. So I always merapu kat situ if dah boring malam-malam. :)

Well, I will continue later on the exact travelogue in my next installation ok.

Toodles.
